That may be a fair observation for some, but at Sage & Summit Consulting we find this is certainly not a true reality for many.
In today’s highly competitive world, more and more individuals become entrepreneurs because of a fundamental need they want satisfied. (Not that fundamental need!) Today, more than ever, entrepreneurs need a vision, a why and a greater purpose. A vision to know what you are wanting to achieve and where you are going. While I can talk about effective vision statements for a long time, can you? Is your vision statement as lame as the other guy’s, or simply another iteration of your mission statement? Know your vision, envision it and head in that direction.

The why? Simon Sinek made the why very visible and highlighted a crucial point in the existential framework of a business. There are really only two whys in business: why did you start the business and why this business?
“Why did you start the business?” is the note you refer to every time you want to give up. What was that deciding point in your life that gave birth to you current business? When you ask the question of why, you then discover your greater purpose.
“Why this business?” What is the legacy you will leave behind and what is the higher purpose behind your mission? It is the answers to these business-focused questions that give meaning to your purpose.

Because I have a varied career that spans more than 20 years. Because I have performed various roles in leadership, organizational development and business development. Because, in every role I have led, my contribution related to developing people, finding roles and positions that drew on their strengths, improved their business focus, planning frameworks and implementation capacity.
Our why can be explained in a simple analogy: working with Sage & Summit Consulting is like bringing your car in for an oil change but getting it suped-up to a high-performance car, getting the wheels aligned and becoming a professional driver behind the wheel.
There are three things in this world that drive us nuts:
- Bad leadership
- Human trafficking
Bad Leadership: In a world where we have thousands of books and training programs on leadership, why are there still so many bad leaders out there? I cannot count how many time I would mention that I am in leadership development and someone in the room says, “Please train my boss!! He/she really needs it.” Have you found a diplomatic way to go to that boss to tell him he/she needs training? (Us, neither!) However, we believe in businesses that develop a standard of excellence in leadership that will be contagious, thereby making a dent in the world’s bad leader population.
Mediocrity: This is another thorn in my flesh. It is a disease that relates to a comfort level the western world has afforded itself. Looking at millions of strategic plans – how many goals start with “continue to….”.
“Continue to” is the cause of lack of growth and innovation and economic stagnation. It is the reason why western giants fall behind on the international competitiveness scale. Sage & Summit only works with civets who are passionate about innovation and growth. Good enough and continue to is not our vocabulary.
Human Trafficking: Last, but certainly not least. I don’t believe I have to say much here, except that the insanity and arrogance to believe that you can take a life and sell it for perverted pleasure is beyond comprehension. At this stage, we are contributing a percentage of our profits to causes that educate and rescue victims of human trafficking. We are committed towards more in the future.

With a Master’s Degree in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa as well as Executive Coaching Certiﬁcations from York University and the Centre of Executive Coaching enhancing, her 25 years of leadership, adult education and consulting experience in private and public organizations, it is safe to say that Marderé is well equipped to resolve any business’ challenges. Marderé’s practice is focused on leadership, high performance teams, strategy and governance/organizational structures.
She is currently in the process of authoring a book on examining the types of leadership attributes and actions required to have a meaningful impact on people and communities.
